Balena Isabella
(Rimini, 1965)

She begins as Grabiele Basilico photographer assistant, she becomes professional photographer in 1991.

She has worked in many troubled areas among which: Iraq, Somalia, Kenya, ex-Yugoslavia. Albania, Mexico and India. Since many years she is following the arab-palestinian conflict and the Middle-East Countries.

In 1992 she has been included in the Kodak European Panorama of young photographers and in 1994 she attends the first master class organized by The World Press Photo Foundation in Rotterdam. She has been involved in many projects and cooperates with different ONG for which she has realized  reportages, social campaigns and  books  (“Questa Guerra non è mia” about Monstar and “L’onda e le formiche” about the after-Tsunami in Thailand.

During 2000-2004 she realized a long personal project “Ci resta il nome" on the cemetries of the Second World War,  published by Gabriele Mazzotta.

Her pictures have been published  by the most important Italian and international magazines.
