Lucas Uliano
(Milano, 1942)
Born in Milano in a workers’ family, Uliano Lucas grows up in the atmosphere of the intellectual and civil reconstruction years, animating the post-war life of the city.
Still seventeen, he begins mixing with artists, photographers and journalists living, at that time, in the area of Brera and he decides to try the photojournalism career, seeing in this profession, as many other young people of his generation, an instrument of both civil engagement and an independent profession.

With the new Italy of the 60’ies, it comes also the involvement in the political considerations and the engagement in a long campaign to document the historical processes: immigration both in Italy and abroad, destruction of the territory due to the industrialization, the student movement crossing Europe, including Italy, the captains movement in Portugal, the wars of liberation in Angola, Eritrea, Guinea Bissau
.
He cooperates with Il Mondo, Tempo, L’Espresso, L’Europeo, Vie Nuove, La Stampa, Il Manifesto, Il Giorno.

His activity goes from the news to the investigation on the themes that he follows for years: the transformation of the working world, the psychiatric problems, the mafia. He publishes his works on L´Express, Le Nouvel Observateur and Time.

In the latest years he concentrates his activity on studies and researches around photography, that on the other side has always followed his profession of reporter, and extensive reports done together with journalists, sociologists and historians.
