Merisio Pepi
(Caravaggio – Bergamo 1931)
He starts to take pictures in 1947, as autodidact. He attends the Circolo Fotografico Milanese, and more in general the graphic milieu of the city, meeting among others Paolo Monti, Antonio Arcari, Cesare Colombo e Pietro Donzelli.
In 1956 he starts the cooperation with the Touring Club Italiano and with different magazines: Camera, Réalité, Photo Maxima, Look, Stern, Paris-Match and many others.

In 1962 he becomes professional photographer and the following year he becomes part of the staff of Epoca.

The ideal environment of Merisio is, together the big popular, folk tradition of the Italian districts, the diverse catholic world.
In 1964 he publishes on Epoca his important reportage “Una giornata con il Papa”, beginning in this way a long work relation with Paolo VI.
In 1972 the RAI dedicated to him an episode of the program “Occhio come mestiere” of Piero Berengo Gardin.

Ten years later, his works are published in the collection “Grandi Fotografi” edited by Fabbri.
